  1. Introduction

“ePaperFlip”: The basic concept of the project is to create a digital publication which can reduce the price, wait for new edition and can give fully searchable digital edition. It has full- fledged search options, zooming and flipping features, to read magazines, see thumbnails and send likes through facebook and twitter. There are features to see videos and send mails, find and watch websites of related articles and magazines.

Aglaia Software in Calabasas, CA is a private company categorized under Computers, Peripherals, and Software. It was established in 2008 and incorporated in California.

 

 

  1. Business Needs

The motto of the application is to create digital publication which can reduce price, wait for new edition, or queue in to buy a new copy from magazine stalls/stands. The customer can get freedom from buying a magazine which their budgets do not allow. They can simply view the whole new magazine from their mobile just by downloading the application from app store. Also it helps the publications from getting rid of publishing extra editions; instead they can publish the issues as per demand.

  1. The app can run on any android device 2.2 or above.

 

  1. Full internet access

 

After launching the application user can click on the cover page of any issue being displayed as per his choice. He can view the pages ether one after the other or click on any of the page and view that page directly. User can move from one page to the other by flipping. He can zoom it to get a more clear picture by tapping on a particular page twice, or can pinch to zoom it further and can even add the page in his favorites list. He can click on the highlighted links on any of the page and can get to the referenced spot directly. He can send likes through facebook, by posting the issue on wall or twitter it for friends. Even videos can be seen. Precise searches can be made, just by typing the keywords.

  1. Functional Description

A detailed description of the project flow is given below along with the screens -

  1. The First Screen or Issues Screen - As soon the application icon is hit, it shows a volley of issues. The cover page of each magazine is shown. Clicking on any will lead to the next screen. It gives user the feeling of viewing a hand held magazine. User can slide it front and back and see all the issues in stand. The view can be rotated for Portrait or landscape modes.

  1. The second Screen or Issue Detail Screen - It gives an overview of the number of pages present in a particular issue. User can view the issue or download it as per convenience. If the user clicks on the “View Online” button, it will take him to the Page’s screen, where he can flip pages and see the entire content of the issue. If he clicks on “Download” button, the issue will be downloaded and he will move to the first screen from here, he can click on that particular issue downloaded and see its contents directly without going to the Issue Details’ screen. A click on “Done” button takes user back to first screen.

  1. The Third Screen or Pages Screen - Clicking on any page number on the second screen will take the user to the particular page number selected. It shows a single page in Portrait mode, while in landscape two pages are shown simultaneously. User can flip the pages and move forward or backward. Apart from it, they can also zoom a page by clicking twice on that page. A pinch zoom feature is also provided for acute vision. The links on various pages are clickable. These links include website address, email ids, videos and more, that can be clicked and viewed. A page can be made favorite at any time by clicking on that page and selecting “Add to Favorite”, which appears in portrait mode, below title.

  1. The Fourth Screen or Menu Screen - If user clicks on the Menu present on the toolbar, he can get the Menu screen from where user can see contents, favorites, can make searches and can also share an issue through facebook or twitter.

  1. The Fifth Screen or Thumbs Screen - User can click on the Thumbs tab present on Toolbar and can view the Thumbnails of each issue. User can click on a particular thumbnail and can see that particular page.

User can click on the any of the Thumbnails present on “Thumbs” screen to view that particular page on “Page” screen. Also a click on the “List” button will take user to the list of pages present in that particular issue.

  1. About Toolbar

The tool bar present at the bottom of each screen, represents the shortest way to reach the corresponding screen. A simple click can take user to that screen as represented by the tab on tool bar. The toolbar tabs are active or enabled for all screens except the first screen that is the “Issues’” Screen. Also the tab remains inactive and highlighted on the Screen it represents. It means that if a user clicks on the say, “Thumbs” tab of the toolbar, The “Thumbs” Screen will open and from here user can click all the tabs except the “Thumbs”.

  1. The Different Types of Links

ePaperFlip provides a variety of links that is made clickable and can be used by the user to either view a website or send an email or watch a video either on You tube or directly on the page. User can even send likes through facebook link. Thus, apart from being entertaining ePaperFlip app provides a lot of usage that a user can avail and get benefitted.

  1. Challenges
    1. Challenges To Achieve:

Following were the few challenges in the application:

  1. The app needed flipping effect to give a feeling of flipping pages of a book.
  2. The Portrait mode had to show single pages while the landscape should show two pages at a time.
  3. Zoom as well as pinch zoom should be allowed to view pages precisely.
  4. The links should be properly placed and made clickable.
  5. Mobile devices should have a different look and feel as compared to tablets.

 

  1. Solutions:

We worked on all the points and found the following working solutions:

  1. Used view pager to achieve flipping effect.
  2. Xml flies were created to get the required effect.
  3. Zoom and pinch zoom features were coded
  4. The links were properly get through web service method and on their click corresponding pages or videos or mails were opened.
  5. Xml files were created and check was made, so that tablet should have different layout than mobile devices.

  • No need to stand in queue to get the edition
  • Get issues in your mobiles or tablets and read them whenever one wants
  • Get issues to enhance knowledge, beauty, health, etc.
